Quartz is one of the most common minerals in the world. Many rocks and minerals contain quartz and it often fills gaps or holes in other rocks, like the lines in sodalite or the crystals in a geode. Quartz is clear or white in its pure form but can be colored by other minerals to produce the different varieties. The chemical composition is SiO2.

You can purchase quartz in many different shapes. Quartz Clusters radiate energy in all directions at once, as do spheres or tumbled/polished pieces. Quartz points direct energy, double terminated can both receive and direct energy. Quartz wands will taper down to the point, thus amplifying energy.

Some quartz has another mineral formed inside called inclusions, examples would be rutile or torumaline. Others get their color from a mineral present when formed so they have colors like amethyst or citrine.

Clear Quartz aka Ice Quartz, Crystal Quartz
Absorbs negativity. Gives strength and energy. Excellent for healing and channeling. Quartz is a power stone that harmonizes and balances. It enhances energy and thoughts, and purifies the spiritual, mental, and physical. It is also a powerfully protective stone, bringing the purified energy in. Historically this crystal has been used to counter black magic, to perform diagnostic healing, and to communicate with spirits and other worlds.

It is rare for quartz to be totally clear, there is usually some type of inclusion, fracture, or irregularity within that often creates rainbows or whispy lines called a 'veil' or 'fairy frost'. There can be cavities or "bubbles" formed when the crystal was growing, often these have trapped water in them. There is some info going around the internet that quartz never has bubbles, but that is incorrect, otherwise there wouldn't be any enhydro quartz.

Clear quartz, as opposed to colored quartz, is associated with the crown chakra, but also works well on all chakras. Attached to a fuel line in a car, a quartz point reduces fuel consumption (have not tried this, just relaying the info).

Aventurine, Green
A common variety of massive quartz, distinguished from other green stones by its sparkling inclusions.

Enhances prosperity and brings career success. It is a gentle stone energetically that gives a sense of calm and balance, and enhances happiness. Helps one to see alternatives and potentials in all situations, giving a positive outlook, courage and inner strength. Reinforces leadership qualities and decisiveness. Brings luck, especially in games of chance. Aventurine benefits in all areas of creativity, and imagination, as well as intellect and mental clarity. Brings friendship to one's life. Associated with the heart chakra, protecting it against psychic vampirism of heart energy. Strong connection to Devic Kingdom (nature spirits) and is used to grid gardens or houses against geopathic stress. Absorbs electromagnetic smog and protects against environmental pollution. Defuses negative situations and turns them around.

Aventurine comes in three main colors: green contains green mica, red-brown contains pyrite or goethite, and blue contains ruite or crocidolite. All three have the metallic flakes that distinguishes them from other quartz.

Amethyst
Amethyst is quartz colored by iron, creating shades from pale lilac to dark purple. It is most commonly found in geodes (rock cavities left by volcanic gas bubbles.

Extremely powerful and protective stone with high spiritual vibration. Guards against psychic attack, transmuting the energy into love. Soothing and calming, it is said to help if ridding yourself of any addictions, also aids sound sleep. Blocks geopathic stress and negative environment energies. Enhances higher states of consciousness and meditation. Mentally, helps you feel less scattered, more focused and in control of your faculties. Facilitates decision making process, bringing common sense and spiritual insights.

Protects against nightmares, enhances memory and improves motivation. Helps you to remember and understand dreams. Dispels anger, rage, fear, and anxiety, alleviates sadness and grief. Gives insights into the true nature of the divine and encourages selflessness and spiritual wisdom. Opens intuition and enhances psychic gifts. Stimulates third eye. Sleeping with amethyst facilitates out of body experiences and brings intuitive dreams. Balances and connects the physical, mental, and emotional bodies, linking them to the spiritual. Cleanses the aura and transmutes negative energy, stimulates the throat and crown chakras.

Amethyst, Chevron, aka Banded Amethyst
A combination of amethyst and white quartz, mixed together in a V-striped or banded pattern. Combines the strengthening and enhancing qualities of quartz with the stress relieving qualities of amethyst. This symbiotic combination of minerals lends itself to a wonderfully spiritual stone, which is great for gently removing the veils that obscure some of the hidden meanings in life. Chevron amethyst is one of the best stones to work with the Third-Eye, enhancing both intuition and physical vision on all planes of existence.

Use it to help remove resistance to change, and to dissipate and repel negativity of all kinds. Creates a strong healing field around the user, and as such, is a good choice to cleanse the aura and to enhance the immune system. Crystal healers work with chevron amethyst for its psychic energies and for its ability to clear and strengthen the aura. Can amplify energies needed for manifestation and works well in grid work. Chevron amethyst is also said to deepen the meditative state, enhancing the quality and frequency of visions and inspiration from higher realms.

Ametrine
A combination of amethyst and citrine, created by heat either naturally or artificially.

Ametrine is very helpful in getting rid of depression, which leads to inner peace and tranquility. Particularly useful in long standing illness as it brings insight into the cause of disease. Regenerates the physical body and strengthens the immune system, stabilizes DNA/RNA. Some believe that ametrine contains the powers of amethyst and citrine in one stone. Unites masculine and feminine energies. Opens the third eye, promoting healing and divination. Enhances compatibility and acceptance of others. Extremely energetic, stimulates creativity and supports control of one’s own life. Promotes optimism and a well being that is not disturbed by stressful external influences.

Citrine
An uncommon variety of quartz which occurs naturally when iron is present, creating a pale and translucent crystal that looks like very pale smoky quartz. Natural citrine is rare so much of what is on the market today is heated amethyst. The heat treated citrine has a deeper color of yellow, gold, or brown with a milky base.

Financial luck. Citrine is a golden yellow quartz that helps with happiness, generosity, creativity, alignment, strength, pleasure, protection, confidence and stability, energy, comfort, successfulness in a career, truth, goodness, warmth, digestion, assimilation, enjoyment of life and spiritual growth. This is a stone of success in any walk of life. Its lore also says that it enhances mental clarity, confidence, happiness and will power. Citrine is purported to bring good fortune, sometimes in very unexpected ways. Alleviates depression and self-doubt, and diminishes irrational mood swings. In traditional folklore and crystal healing lore it is said to aid the digestion and eliminate nightmares that disturb one's sleep. It is associated with the solar plexus chakra. Never needs cleaning as it absorbs, transmutes, dissipates and grounds negative energy, extremely protective for the environment. Place in wealth corner of house or business or in cash box. Citrine fades in sunlight

Iron Quartz
AKA Ferruginous Quartz or Hemitized Quartz
Found where there is the presence of iron oxides. Looks like dirty, stained, brownish rock crystal or a vibrant brick red or orange crystal. Can be opaque and dull, or clear with areas or veils of reddish coloring. Sometimes sold as Tangerine Quartz or Strawberry Quartz.

Powerful healing crystal, bringing together the supernatural clarity of clear quartz with earthy blood red iron. Optimizes blood circulation and helps to restore energy.

Access the hidden energy of nature. Encourages practical effective action. Reveals fine or subtle energies. Grounds one in the here and now.

Milky Quartz aka Snow Quartz
Quartz that is pure white, wither opaque or translucent. The white is created by tiny bubbles of air or water contained in the quartz. This can occur at the base of a clear quartz. If you hold or carry such a stone often, your body heat can drive out the bubbles through microscopic fractures. This explains why a personal stone can go from opaque to clear.

A stone that brings good fortune. Calming and soothing. Enhances tact and cooperation, helps you to think before speaking. Good for meditation, and looking within, links to deep inner wisdom previously denied yourself and society. Helps one to overcome martyrdom and victimhood. It also has all the properties of clear quartz to a lesser degree. Snow quartz is often used for purification. Physically, it is beneficial for the immune system,

Rose Quartz
A Calming Stone that dispels stored anger, jealousy, fear, grief and resentment. Eases emotional imbalance. Rose quartz emits a beautiful calming, energy which works on the whole system to gently remove negativity and reinstate soft loving and gentle energies. It is particularly helpful to bring back peace and love after emotional trauma's. She works to bring gentle love to all the chakra's but especially the heart and crown. It is quite simply the soft gentle nurturing love of the mother. Place by your bed or in relationship corner of house to attract love, it is so effective that it often needs amethyst to calm things down. Restores trust and harmony in an existing relationship.

Quartz, Smoky
Found where granite exists, most often in mountainous regions and volcanic areas. The smoky color is thought to result when clear quartz is exposed to radioactive decay in nearby minerals. Some of what is on the market today is artificially irradiated. There is a yellow-brown variety which is found in Scotland called Cairngorm.

Releases negativity such as grief, old anger, depression and resentment. A soothing and relaxing stone. Grounding and stabilizing. It brings calm and centering, lifts depression, enhances practicality, and generally removes negative energies, bringing happiness. Raises vibrations during meditation. Assists in tapping subconscious wisdom. Smoky quartz is a protective stone, particularly for physical protection, protection from negativity, and psychic protection. Smoky quartz is associated with the root chakra.

Quartz, Rutilated
AKA Sagenite, Angel Hair Quartz, or Venus Hair Quartz
Forms when rutile forms inside quartz. The rutile can be thin or thick, and can be silver, gold, red, or rarely black. The quartz is often smoky colored. Considered a precious stone, expect to pay a lot for it.

The pattern of criss crossing crystals makes it an excellent stone for communication and exchange of energy. It removes obstacles and speeds up events and processes. It lightens a heavy mood and helps one see beyond fixed ideas. Encourges one to make progress, no matter how tough life gets.

Stimulated the crown chakra. Relaxes tense muscles. Helps to knit damaged tissues together.

Quartz, Tourmalinated
Brings together properties of quartz and tourmaline. Grounding, strengthens the body’s energy field against external invasion and deflects detrimental environmental influences. Releases tension. Harmonizes opposite elements and polarities, turns negative into positive. Helps to integrate and heal the shadow energies, alleviates self sabotage, effective problem solver.
